I'm a holy man minus the holiness.--E. M. Forster

Sancte Michael Archangele,

Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

It's very strange this year...

Good Friday falls on Lenin's birthday, AKA "Earth Day". It feels to me like it means something, but I don't know what. Nor do I want speculate. Ive posted previously on what it means to me.

All I can add on this Good Friday is, "For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world!"

A Belated St. Patrick's & St. Joseph's day to all...

Just spent TOO much time having a good time. But it's been a fun and crazy few days. I'm becoming an internet celebrity via the The Gymanstics WOD:
. Kind of cool.
Unfortunately, with the full moon, people go crazy, but that's life! Went to mass this evening at St. Joes (Ironically, the Irish church in town.). The music was so insipid. They had one song about the rapture. (I thought that was something the so-called Pentecostals invented in the 1800's!) So I thought it would be better to share the following via Pro Ecclesia * Pro Familia * Pro Civitate: "The Deer's Cry" Enjoy!

Another Ash Wednesday...

Didn't get to Mass. Didn't get any ashes. (Thanks Archdiocese of Cincinnati & churches around here who've managed to have ashes given at times I can't get to!) Wasn't able to workout @ CrossFit Wright-Patt. Then my Common Access Card Certificates got wiped in a software upgrade push.

Like the Major said, "It's been a bad day!"

"Dust thou art! And unto dust you shall return”

I find this cool (even though it's about me!)

In early November, I got a DVT, basically two blood clots. They felt like the worst Charley Horse I had ever had. I didn't know I had it but eventually it felt better. I even set some PR's on CrossFit WODs.
That was until my wife saw that my left calf was visibly larger than my right. She had me go to the doctor, who diagnosed the DVT. I had to go spend a night in the hospital & go on blood thinners. Also, my workouts were limited to upper body stuff. I was surprised about how little I could do.
One of the things I worked on was my headstands. I could NEVER go them when I was a teenager. Thanks to Carl Paoli at the Gymnastics WOD, I was able to do it for the first time in my life this year.

Now on 17 Feb, my work Division had a bowling "Wingman day" outing. We HAVE to have these to promote the "Wingman Culture" to prevent us from committing suicide & such. Since I hadn't bowled in about 3 years, I didn't do well.

We had a Division call & the Acting Division Chief put up a slide on the results of the bowling outing which showed that I was the low scorer (for one game even though several other division management "declined" to participate).

After some goading by some people in the Division, I decided to put together a retort, because I'm just sick of being made fun of.

So I asked one of the contractors to take a picture of me in a headstand just as a part of a way to make a statement:

I told the person who took the picture that I wanted to do something "Unusual". She looked at me like I was nuts. But, when I showed her, she thought it was cool and asked if she could use it as part of a "Funny" things at work!

All right, I'm not a great bowler. But there are other things I can do that people my age can't! And that's okay with me!

Conversations with Walker Percy

“Settle for Nothing Less.” (Walker Percy)
Sunday, January 16, 2011 A.D. | Author Christopher Blosser
Q: What kind of Catholic are you?
A: Bad.
Q: No, I mean are you liberal or conservative?
A: I no longer know what those words mean.
Q: Are you a dogmatic Catholic or an open-minded Catholic?
A: I don’t know what that means, either. Do you mean I believe the dogma that the Catholic Church proposes for belief?
Q: Yes.
A: Yes.
Q: How is such a belief possible in this day and age?
A: What else is there?
Q: What do you mean, what else is there? There is humanism, atheism, agnosticism, Marxism, behavioralism, materialism, Buddhism, Muhammadanism, Sufism, astrology, occultism, theosophy.
A: That’s what I mean.
Q: To say nothing of Judaism or Protestantism.
A: Well, I would include them along with the Catholic Church in the whole peculiar Jewish-Christian thing.
Q: I don’t understand. Would you exclude, for example, scientific humanism as a rational and honorable alternative?
A: Yes.
Q: Why?
A: It’s not good enough.
Q: Why not?
A: This life is too much trouble, far too strange, to arrive at the end of it and then to be asked what you make of it and have to answer, “Scientific humanism.” That won’t do. A poor show. Life is a mystery, love is a delight. Therefore I take it as axiomatic that one should settle for nothing less than the infinite mystery and the infinite delight, i.e., God. In fact, I demand it. I refuse to settle for anything less.
