I'm a holy man minus the holiness.--E. M. Forster

Sancte Michael Archangele,

Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Hard Sayings

This Sunday is one of those that have readings that bristle most people.
First Joshua makes a very bold statement, "...And if you be unwilling to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." All of the Israelites answer by saying "yeah bro, we're going to do that too..

The Paul tells the Ephesians, "... Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Even so husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no man ever hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body..."

I can JUST hear all the women in church bristle at "...Wives, be subject to your husbands...let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands..." They don't hear "...Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her..." I think the call is clear that husbands have to do everything (including giving up one's life) for thier wives. Unfortunately, that means nothing in this world.

Then as  Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?"

Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

This guy gets it spot on!

I pray for the warewithall to have a tenth of the composure of this guy! He's our version of Daniel Hannan.
